Finally finished, well almost. I have 5 stands of WB Orcs to complete the armies options. I will not paint those for awhile....nobody around me plays 15mm. The Army is made up of Demon World Orcs entirely. This army has been painted for a very long time. I just realized that the basing was not complete. I finish the bases and sprayed them the other day while cleaning off my painting table.
In the hopes of going to HISTORICON this coming summer I asked which army I could paint for the two Davids Campaign that would not affect/tie up/or interfere with the campaign if I did not show. I was told, "round shield carrying Wackos" from the Saxon list. Well here they are!

The List is made from all Old Glory Figures. Some packs have been added from the Viking line for Berserkers and variety. I wanted a difference in weapon type as well.

The Fearless leader. I went through many aches and pains deciding on the finish to the stands. I really wanted to make them conducting a Littoral landing with water on part of the stand and beach on the other. The narrow 15mm stands made that near to impossible for me. I decided it was going to be cold and snowy...works for me. The North Sea, English Channel, is like that anyway.
Another Waring States Chinese army. Heck, I might build them all eventually. I motivated myself by building the camp first. Not the normal way for me...but I needed the kick in the shorts. The miniatures are all Museum from the Chinese chariot line. Originally, I bought two army packs off ebay. One was Shang and the other a waring states army. The packs...well were DBA 1.1 packs, great. I mixed and matched since I already have a Shang Chinese army.
The Chariots barely hang onto the back of the stand. Not an issue really, just inconvenient when making columns. I made the banner in my typical way with paper glued together. The image is from a t-shirt....you figure it out. The Generals Dagger-axe man would not fit in the chariot no matter how much I cut his stand down...he no longer has a stand and is pinned into the base. The Umbrella is made from a stick pin glued to a 28mm Viking Shield with a strip of paper glued around it for he tassels. Worked awesome. No the tassel look is all paint vs. cutting it.
Because of the mixing packs, I did not have enough CB to make a third stand. These guys just have not recieved thier weapon upgrade and armor...outlying province :)
OK, well....again mix and match. I was cool with the Dagger-axe men but did not like the Spear guys. I almost stopped painting the army on Friday since I was unhappy. Then the Emperor, me, made a choice. I dictated that the extra Bowmen lay down their bows and pick up spears...They refused. Their were many be-headings that sad day. The heads were removed and re-mounted on the Spearmen's bodies. Guess it was easier to switch heads then weapons.
I think I bought the figures from Mike Sanderson at Recruits in MO. The figures are all Essex minus the artillery crew and piece which are Old Glory. I had ART left over from my Armenians from some time ago. Felt like the one piece out in the open was lame so I gave them some defensive terrain.
The shooters are what makes this army playable, in my opinion. Otherwise mounted are an issue even with four KN.
I wanted something simple for the shield design. Probably should have been all the same design for an issued item to the troops but I got tired of painting circles....you know how it is sometimes.
Here is a project that has been staring at me for weeks..ok months now and needed finished before I pack up to head home to the States.
The army is made from mostly Essex. Exceptions are the Elephant, SCH, PS, and WB...hmm ok maybe not mostly made up of Essex. The EL and SCH are Old Glory. The WB and two PS are Xyston. Look fine to me....I have had this army in a bag since long before Xyston got around to making figures for it...darn-it

I went with a red theme as you can tell. The up side down anchor seemed appropriate. I did however make a mistake...the pikes are to long for the box I transport figures in...hmm, guess they get to nap while traveling.
Decided on two CAT instead of the KN. I wanted to be able to use them for 2.2 and +....don't feel the 3KN fit the army as well. PK line do not need rambunctious knight guys charging ahead and getting waxed.
The Hero stand with Standard bearer. The fanatic along for the ride. If you know me and my gamer name, "Gobbo the Great" then you would recognize this old Goblin figure as a D&D character from teenagehood. I used him as my main character for years. Re-found him.
I wanted alot of Spear and Blade for this army. I was considering them as Horde but had issues mounting them, maybe I will still. Interesting, not sure why I just put two and two together and realized the depth of a Horde stand is 40mm....hmmmmm
Dwarf Army!. Here is my Dwarf HoTT Army. I finally finished the last stands last night. All the element can still be used in War Hammer Fantasy Battles. Notice the stands have been cut out so the figures can be removed. Additionally, the BD and Shooters fit in the ranks troop blocks for the other game. All the figures are Games workshop, Citadel, Metal except for the guy in the pool.

Lurker number Two. OK, so this was really fun to build. What a fantastic figure. The Dwarf in the inner tube was purchased online. The pool is made from green stuff in two layers. I was concerned that the seam would leak when I filled the pool. The Hose is a round plastic piece I wrapped around a brush to make the coil. I made the ball of green stuff as well. The water is of course finger nail polish. Drys very well. I put a sheet of plastic at the end of the hose to show the pool filling.

I have been intrigued by the changes to DBA, specifically to 2.2+. I
wanted to work with WB again, not my favorite unit in 2.2. I realized
first, that I did not have any WB armies here in Korea and secondly, I
really did have many in my collection. Here is my try at them. The
army is made from Old Glory.
This is the second of Two Giants that I have in my War hammer army but the first one i finished painting. I liked the impromptu helm. I named this one BoBo. BoBo is an out of print Citadel giant. One of the many old metal figures I have collected for this army. BoBo will also be the Behemoth in my Orc army for HoTT.
Needed a waterway to go with my terrain set. Next up is the road crossroads and river bridge sections. Gotta be able to have the road cross either another road or a river, right?
I chiseled the wood away to create the water portion of the pieces and then putties on some wave shapes. The paint helped alot to get the illusion of waves going. I used the fingernail polish again for the water effect. Works great and is cheap as heck. No worries. besides I have been married long enough to know how to get fingernail polish off stuff it was not supposed to be on..:)
Some Palmyrans exploring the new terrain on the work table. I just wanted to make sure that the slope on the edges of the terrain did not make the stands wobble. For the most part, no. I did realize that since I make raised terrain, I need crossroad pieces and maybe a river crossing for the road to cross. I will add that to my to do list right after a waterway is finished. I am more apt to have a littoral army then to use a river in a game anyway.
My friend Tony Banks changed the look of his game board over the past year or so. He has used a plywood board for some time but refined it. I took that as the inspiration to build one of my own. Took awhile to get the wood cut to the right size. No Home Depot or Lowes in Korea...go figure!

The Board is 5/8" plywood. I sealed it with a thin varnish so that I could try to keep the Korean humidity out of the wood. Not sure it was required but thought it could not hurt. I smeared Elmers Wood Putty around the entire thing in a thin layer. Should have thought that part through because it made me run out of the primary troop base material I use with no where to get resupply without ordering from the states, opps. I have since found a local art store that has it on the shelf here in Seoul. After that dried, I realized that some of the ridges where to high and would be subject to chipping...Off to find sand paper. Sanded the board lightly and then primed the board with the same base Dark Brown I use for the stands. Another thin I should have thought through, I ran out mid way. I found a another kind of Korean paint that was close and finished the job. I wanted it to look like my stands do, better matching and that way my troops will blend into the board and you infiltrators would stick out and better a better target for artillery:)
The circles are 60mm wood bases that I have made different terrain. This way I can just switch them out on a flat terrain piece and change the terrain type in a flash. I have woods, rough, and marsh represented here. I have dunes, oasis, and palm woods in mind in the future.
The most recent projects were the roads and river pieces. They were much easier then I thought when I started. The difficult part was chiseling out the river bed from the piece of wood I used. Much fun and few close calls with my trusty xacto knife...and finished. The water effect was added after the pieces were complete and sprayed. The water is clear finger nail polish. The smell goes away after a day or so.
I have finished my NKE army. I intended to paint this army along with a commissioned BBDBA army for Spencer but my luggage got hosed up on the way to Korea....I only have about half of his figures here now so I figured I would finish mine and make sure he is happy with the eventual look (minor changes will happen even if I intend them to be the same)

I decided not to go with the typical bleached linen look with cow skin shields. I though they needed a little flare. The Pharaoh looks light in the loafers anyway. I added the red on the bosses cart as an after thought. Still not sure I like it, but there it is. I used the grass tuffs again but this time added some static grass for a different look. Egypt is not as desert as one might think.

You probably noticed the rocks and grassed circles behind the army. These are part of a modular terrain kit I am slowly building. Seems I need more and more pieces for it to work...Should have stuck with one color grass and I would be complete...

Typical Essex. I got 6 of each kinda BW figure. I would have preferred two stands of baldies and one stand of regular guys. So I decided to give each baldies stand a boss, someone to keep them in line.
I Picked up this Ottoman army from one of Dave Crenshaw's cleaning out the lead pile sales. What Dave does not know is that his posts saved the very army he sold me. I got antsy and spray coated them while it was raining outside...the base semi gloss went on fine but when I sprayed on the dull coat the whole army transformed into ghosts. Great hour down the drain. Then I remembered reading his post about re-spraying and it clearing up. It kinda worked for most of the figures. After three tries, it is "good enough" noting is as bright as it was once and seems to have one to many layers of coating on the figures. Oh well,I am not re-painting the darn things. So be it. Call it extra armor.

This is my first try with the grass tuffs. I like them, easy to use and look nice. More expensive then a container of static grass though. Maybe a combination of the two will work better in the future.
I have already painted up most of the figures to convert this to RRR. I just have to paint up one more CV and the separate General. I will re-post with the new figures.
I used some of the Mirliton Condotta figures to make up the Italian Wars Florentine army. To complete the 2.2 list I painted up some CB and more KN. I have been trying to paint the Mirliton KN for almost four months and finally cried uncle. I just was not happy with the miniatures. Clean and detailed but not for me. I makes me want to sell the figures i bought for the Crusades from Mirliton rather then paint them. I fell back on the OG figures I bought for RRR. I painted up soe Mirliton CB and really hemmed and hawed over how to mount them. I was concerned about DBA 3.0 making the 8BW stands go away, I was worried about mounting them all to a 40mm stand, and I did not want to paint the SP. I win, I mounted the CB and left a ledge for some PK to stand on. Looks good to me. Maybe not the best troop to take in the woods but will look nice on the game board.

I think all the figures are OG minus the; ART and crew, LH, PS, and the CB figures which are all Mirliton.Jeff Franzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03228238008170015491noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8379940388047386401.post-18208303408312891472012-01-08T15:43:00.003-05:002012-01-08T20:06:57.001-05:00Perseous and PegasusThis was a great project. I wanted to make a hero for the Greeks. I figure he can be used as either an Areal Hero or Hero or for that matter a flyer. The miniature is a Xyston Greek General. The wings are from a Demonworld Harpy (we had chicken for dinner and saved the wings). I just glued them forward of the rider for fit.
I mounted the rear two horse legs to a piece of wood which in turn was glued to an up-right piece of wood to give some stability to the structure forming a C with the base. I filled the C with blue foam and wood puttied the rest. I took some care in making it appear to be waves at the bottom of the stand.

Can not wait to play this piece in the up and coming HoTT doubles tourney at cold Wars 2012.Jeff Franzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03228238008170015491noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8379940388047386401.post-58570078938805060682011-12-22T21:25:00.002-05:002011-12-22T21:29:11.359-05:00New Russian TankI just finished a British tank for my Russians.
